Presented framed only in a light oak bespoke tray frame (no glass). Artwork has been coated with museum grade matt UV protective varnish to preserve the archival qualities.
Behind the Artwork:
This new collection from Katie Mawson emerged from a place of wanting to explore colour in a different, more disciplined way. Working with the cloth collected from discarded hard back books, she slices, cuts and rips these beautifully marked and faded textiles from their boards - deconstructing and reconstructing them into something new.
Working with a limited palette, Katie spends hours arranging and rearranging the cloth to find balance, positive and negative space, and a sense of harmony. She will often experiment with mark making and removing colour, to add to the textural nature of the works.
