Influenced by encounters with her immediate environment, Susan Simonini works from the shapes, textures, and rhythms that inscribe themselves on daily experience. These impressions do not return as direct representations; rather, they are mediated by memory, repetition, and the material language of paint. The process of layering becomes a metaphor for the sedimentation of memory itself, where fragments accumulate, obscure, and reveal in turn.
Susan is an Australian, contemporary, multi-disciplinary artist, who works from her home studio in picturesque, rural Tasmania. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Border Art Prize and the Gold Coast Art and Design Awards, and has been a finalist in the prestigious Glover Prize and the Churchie Emerging Art Prize.
