Vera Boele-Keimer's practical work is concerned with the materiality of painting, in particular the relationship between surface and support. Her practice questions boundaries of categories such as drawing, sculpture, painting and addresses the balance between system-based methodologies and intuition.

After gaining a degree in English and History, she studied Fine Art at the Academy of Art in Münster. She moved from Berlin to Bristol in 2004 and completed an MFA at Bath Spa University in 2013. Her work has been widely exhibited in group and individual exhibitions both in the UK and abroad and her work is held in public and private collections.

Boele-Keimer was elected as Academician at the RWA in 2012 where she served on the council for several years. In 2023 she received a Research and Development bursary from WEVAA towards an upcoming artist residency at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation (USA). She is currently PhD candidate at University of Gloucestershire, researching the relationship between weaving and abstract painting.
