Smithson Projects is delighted to present Steady Light: a collection of eight original works on canvas by Carrie Jean Goldsmith.
At the heart of her practice, Goldsmith seeks to capture a sense of light within her paintings. Balancing considered abstract brushwork with the luminosity of paint, her compositions are compelling yet ambiguous, often rooted within the organic palette of nature, and evoking the essence of imagined spaces.
Marking her debut Smithson release, the eight paintings presented in Steady Light exude a radiant nostalgia. Each composition reveals a distinct light source, whether emanating from within, or appearing as flares and pockets throughout the piece. Olive greens, rich purples, and swathes of peaches and hot pinks conjure memories of childhood colours and stories told, reflecting on how fairy tales intertwine with reality. A delicate duality unfolds: light and dark coalesce, the warmth of nostalgia dancing alongside subtle undertones of melancholy.
